Brit Smith is the creator and host of iHeart Radio’s cannabis-focused podcast, Blunt Talk. She is also the head news writer for the Evening Drive Show on WBZ 1030 AM News Radio. Brit studied the intersection of cannabis and human culture while working towards her degree in Biological Anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley, and has since written for a number of online medical marijuana magazines. She also blogs weekly about cannabis news for WBZ online.
Brit is originally from South London, UK, and moved to Texas after graduating high school in 2005. After several difficult years including a whirlwind marriage and divorce, Brit found herself in a foreign country, homeless and addicted to hard drugs. Thanks to guidance from friends who used cannabis recreationally, Brit was able to hit the road to recovery one joint at a time.
After getting clean and moving to California, Brit used cannabis to treat anxiety and depression, and also found it helped for post-surgical pain. In San Diego, she met her now-partner, and when he returned from his second tour of duty in Afghanistan and left the Marine Corps, Brit began studying how cannabis could help PTSD. When she got to UC Berkeley and her mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer a year later, Brit expanded her studies further, and voila: she had officially become obsessed with learning about the vast potentials of medical marijuana.
